The Thursday night party was packed with 20 tables! It was so relaxing night! We were bathed in such a warm supportive audience from their loving eyes! My little angel group, superb! The audience love them! After the show we get complimented by others how together we were - I think all my students did a good job! Here's a few pictures from the showcase we did last week.

What A Night?

I am sitting here waiting for A NIGHT OF DINNER & DANCING FOR ALL TO ENJOY to start. Please arrive early because we will have several run-throughs and talk about how the program will go. It is very important that everyone is learning the group dance. You don't have to be perfect, but at least know what a "dance" is!!

I don’t felt thrill to dance tonight and I am sitting here with tears swelling up in my eyes! Serene is boarding to Liverpool at 5pm today! When I heard she cried in the whole morning, my heartbroken!! It's the first time she’ll be traveling abroad so this is all a brand new emotional experience for her. Although it’s a short period for her study, I had not intended going to say goodbye at the airport, I made my short goodbyes blessing ‘may you be well’ over the phone. In my heart I say the full phrase – and mean it. It's incredibly daunting, yet bittersweet.

This is only a temporary phase, as I'm sure when she touch down in UK soil, all her troubles will go out the window. And me ? I am fine then, it's going to be a packed week for me in studio, I've got a lot of big things on the go for the coming week! Now, will rock it and make some fun tonight! Oh...ooh...oh...ooh...ooh...oh... Come on and rock with me tonight!

GO BLAST!!!

It’s been a bit slow to update my blog! Not that I don’t intend to update but I am just freaking tired, and when I reached home all I want to do is sleep..sleep…sleep! This year will be busy one, thought of one event over can get more rest but now still busy with next upcoming event, and there are plenty of events and workshop to attend. Spreading more health, wealth and happiness, Life is a Blast!

Last night just came back from K/L with a new camera and new clothes from Miss Selfridge. Today transferred money for my new costume for collection! Argh…. my Argh is that I bought too many stuffs in this month! It burnt a big hole in my pocket! Never mind, the digital camera is a MUST for my daily activities as I don’t want to lug that heavy and sizable DSLR around with me all the time (my previous Sony camera was taken by Serene to UK). Feels good for Canon S90 new shots, What a Blast!!

This Thursday May 27th at 8pm - Just a reminder, we'll be having the studio dance and dinner party. We will have a shimmy session! All the guest and our dancers show off their shimmy skills with a 3-4 minute non-stop shimmy session. So remember to practice your shimmy right now and don’t forget to bring your hip scarf! See you and Go Blast!!!

Tied Together With A Smile....

I just watched the video which my students wore their new and sexy costume performed belly dance fusion on mother’s day event last week. The audience loved them and broke into loud applause! I have very few words for their performance because it was Great! They killed it on the stage with their sexy costume! I found a creative way to tie their arm and leg with velvet ribbon, which created a very fusion effect when the girls need to touch their leg for the dance.

Seeing them on the video, it brought back a feeling was the desire to work with the girls who share my passion for belly dance. I appreciate the effect of good costuming for a group choreography. I appreciate everybody’s hard work for sewing the costume! When Arabesque Troupe was formed, the experience of the excitement growing from time to time, along with the challenge and the beauty of working as a team and creating something beautiful together.

Behind of the stage, I am glad to see a journey of friendship, learning and mutual respect. And thank you for willing to go the extra mile to get things done, running around town to shopping for fabrics, buy accessories and props, appointment with the tailor, and never-ending phone call chains that flow within the group efficiently.

I will continue to create supportive environments for my students to explore. This feeling was stronger than the desire to perform and continue growing as a dancer, which is strong as ever and I’m working super…super…. hard each day to get there.

Aziza Workshop!

It's been quite a few yrs since I took Aziza workshop. This time, I felt great back to her drum solo workshop, she really gave me feedback and answer questions. But I only had 5.5 hours with Aziza compare to last time with her in Singapore. And yes, I still kept all the videos Aziza did in the class. Seeing Aziza dance is sure to put a smile on my face! I can honestly say she is such a sweet lady who was genuinely friendly.

In the evening, we worked on 4 minutes drum solo choreography. At the end of the workshop, we were divided into 2 groups and practiced the choreography again and again! Wow…imaging how fast we picked up the drumsolo choreography in 2.5 hours. The great thing is Aziza asked all the belly dance teachers to dance. I did not want to volunteer as I just want to be a student on that day. Suddenly, I heard my name called. Without hesitation, I went on the floor, I was nervous to be performing in front of all dancers/teachers. But when with Aziza’s voice companion to shower me, I did the whole dance with the teacher level group! Although there are parts of the choreography I didn't get (the tricky bit at the mid of the choreography happened while I was in the back). I remember how she thanked all the teachers with tears in her eyes for having that ……and I had tears in my eyes…… Aziza is the true dancer, her feeling and understanding of the music is deep in her soul. She is amazing!

Thanks to Albee, Jovyn, Ming Huay, Carolyn and Irene, the team's effort and hard work. Thanks for all mommies hard work for sewing the costume, the care and love you give and support me all the time! Back To Penang Competition

Been rushing in and out from the tailor for costume and the usual preparations …… me exhausted beyond words!! There is more pleasurable to me than the smell of coffee in the morning while reviewing the video I took in the class yesterday….

I always thought that competition is an excellent way to motivate kids. But now can you imaging how stress they are?? Can you imaging they cry because keep forgetting the choreography…their mummy was panic to slow talk to them….and me felt heartache watching my young kid cry……! Just like my life, I run my classes as a place to improve, a place to get faster, to understand best, to get more efficient, I do not like the idea of always getting rid of competition because a few students may get upset and cry.

And tonight they are going to dress up and jam in the hall! Yeah… they love their new costume. The same words I would like to say, ‘Do your best you can, go for fun and enjoy it. I will be there for you!! Good luck to all! Upload their new costume above!

Tribal Dancer Spectacular!!!

Finally we ‘graduated’ from Tribal Style Belly Dance Malaysia with Nanci Traynor on 25 April 2010. Only 6 of us completed all the 30 hours workshop Series!!! I just wanted to say a great big thank you to my students who had made their commitment for tribal workshop! And another great thank you to instructors from Penang who graciously re-arranged their schedules to fill in for the 5 series workshops. For those who is not complete all the series workshop (due to the busy schedule), I hope you can continue to do some tribal class if you still want to dance in that style - it's great for improving your technique and widening your perspective.

Having graduated doesn’t mean that we are going to be a ‘Tribal Star’. One of the things I admired about Tribal dancers is their awesome techniques. It is clearly that we need yoga to improve our strength and flexibility. The best part is focused on different formations and collaborative relationships within the dance, including duets, trios, one-two-triplet, and open chorus. The more when I learn, I realize how much I haven't seen or thought about yet and realize how much more there is to know. Yes…. I like the dance is about "collaboration, not competition.

And now….I am looking forward to perform in a never-before-seen Tribal dancers from Nanci Tribe and jamming together on Malaysia 3rd World Belly Dance Day Charity Event !! 9 of us will be on the stage for 10 minutes. Wow… I don’t know what is the music is going to play and imaging we will moves rather than choreographing the entire dances. Cant wait for the magic and power that is group synchronies belly dance with Tribe at this wonderful community group. Yeah…. Can’t wait to share in the joy…..!
