Stuff That Makes Me Crazy

Yesterday turned out to be a very nice day -- a surprise, really, because the weather forecast had called for overcast and rain.

First off, Grace decided to go to belly dance competition in the last minutes, and Kher Ting is going with her, so I set out a little time to create the choreography for them. After I crawled into bed, my brain kept thinking about my 2 little girls going to belly dance competition on 2 May in Penang. I am very excited for both of them. Yessssss!!!!! It was choreography that wiped me out last night...

Today is a little jam-packed, practice and rehearsal! The girls are excited for the competition, for WBDD in Penang, mother's day show and annual annivesary event...oh, and I love that stuff that makes me crazy!!

Sadly I canceled my trip to K/L this week, not to go shopping with Serene, maybe find a date to help her pack for her further study in UK by end of May! Maybe plan a real celebration, with lunch out and a movie in Penang before she fly to UK. And will pick up her "big" gift -- a latest handphone she requested.

We also have our performance right smack in the early of May. In any case, I need to stop now and go bake applesauce coffee and ‘roti chanai’ for breakfast.

Have a great day!

Past Weekend With Hadia

Hadia workshop in KLPac went really well... a really fun and talented teaching method waken me up in every minutes… Huge thanks to all belly dancers for making the workshop a success. I hope you found a lot of new treasures, learned some new moves and had a great time. Hadia and me are looking forward to dancing with you all again!

For the 'Hadia Oriental Dance Training Workshop and teacher training', am sorting out the date with Hadia . For those who missed out the technique workshop in past weekend, you'd be welcome to join the next 20 hours of oriental dance training or weekend workshop in 2011. Get yourself ready and stay tune, I will keep you update!

There were also so many fantastic photos taken on Oasis Night Hafla 16 April 2010 by my girl, that I don't know where to even begin to choose which ones to add to my blog. So please give me a few days to go through them all!! I felt so glad to get together with belly dance friends/sister that we have not seen for years, when we get together its like there hasn't been anytime apart!!! I had a lot of fun, and the dance studio at aneyogadanceacademy.webs.com is just lovely. Thanks to E-Dance Academy (Emily Mah) for all of your hard work to organize this event. Kudos to all who participated to make both event a great success.

Love to all belly dance friends and students.... hope to see you again soon !!

Welcome the “Stars”

I am going to fetch HADIA at KLIA on Friday. I’m excited about this – me hosted HADIA back to Malaysia!! But this round the venue of the workshop is in Kuala Lumpur on Apr 17 & 18, running here and there make me feel more energetic! Next week with Nanci Traynor last series of Tribal workshop in Alor Setar again. Yes, I worked extremely hard and I loved it!!

Having a discussion with Lynna about how to welcome the “Star”. She asked me whether I want to have the 'kompang and bunga manga' thing to welcome the “Stars” ?? Haha.... she made me laugh.....!! Oh no… hmmm, those 'kompang and bunga manga' thing is too expensive… it will take up too much resources and time to prepare and take away the enjoyment of the party...I do hope she can arrange to pour confetti all over Hadia's head and everyone applause as she come in... simple right? I know it’s a bit messy and hope the studio owner will allow. I just spoke to Lyna, and finally I through the ball to her…will see how and I invite you to read on to find out more!

Last rehearsal tonight, and we are going to have great great great fun on Friday Night. There will be some great performances by Hadia, Nanci Traynor & Karen Madrid, Woohoo…. Cant wait!!!

Update

Jitra studio we will be holding their 2nd annual anniversary on 27 May 2010. It’s only a month plus away but it’s worth the wait we are going to have the most amazing dinner & dance party ever... I am busy choreographing, cleaning and re-working routines. All the while students are busy with my routines! Let's all take a moment to breath!!!

Last night I drilled layers for a while. Then I choreographed 1.27 minutes to my favorite music. Another minute of the rest choreography would be continued tonight. I cleaned up a few things to make sure there is more balance between right and left in footwork and tossing in combination I've learned and liked but never use……..My body is sore. It was a good sore.

The Way You Learn...

This morning sneaked out an hour to teach my students technique and drills. I hope them to learn, to grow, to explore, to expand their minds. Of course, they also wanted more, unfortunately I don’t have too much time. I also want them to know that I care about them, and I am grateful for extra class opportunities like this to share that with them. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I can finally teach students who can pick up my steps!!!

My students asked me HOW I feel when I teach ‘technique drills”. Well, very few people understand the frustration of teaching inexperienced dancers. You know, I'm not knocking my student because dance is for everyone and it's never too late to start and all that good stuff. All I'm saying is that it takes a special kind of person with the right kind of patience to guide new dancers in their first steps. Still, the most important aspect is DISCIPLINE. You can have all of the talent in the world, but if you don't have DISCIPLINE you aren't going to learn.

Wow…. I’ve shown you a lot today. To make it all come together -- DISCIPLINE, ENERGY, DELICACY, and the TECHNIQUE of course, to be a pretty good all around dancer. So definitely you need a lot of work. Jia You…….

The New, The Old & The Blue

Posting for 2nd night NEW experience - we participated in the activity of the temple in conjunction with their annual celebration. The beginner troupe performed the OLD choreography which I created in 2005 and the costumes were simple and BLUE, except mine one in peach.

Maybe dancing in this temple event doesn't sound like the most exciting thing to us. The stage were full of disco ball-style light, multi colored light and the smoke blurred my eyes. I felt uncomfortable when the emcee introduces me to the audience takes too much time.....and I wait... then I wait a bit more... and I keep smiling..... When I heard the music, I lose track of the of the choreography a bit, hope nobody noticed that, hahaha :D. Anyway, I was able to get back to my dance choreography again. After finish, my students complaint the stage is really small, they only kept the steps really small and it works.

My student, Ivy suppose to dance together with us, unfortunately she couldn’t find the place though, I was at the back stage when she told me she lost the way. Ivy, so sorry for the missed!

Pictures didn't come out very good this time (the smoke and the disco light), but for record purpose, I uploaded some.

Great job last night.

The kids performed in Taman Thian Peng – A Temple and the associates annual celebration. I am a little out of date, I don’t know the temple will have a such a big celebration every year, and the celebration is always last for a month. I was there early for parking as well as taking the opportunity to snap photos before people started to pour in. My little Grace was excited when she saw a temporary wooden stage that she is gonna to dance. The girls performed amazingly! They just shined on stage with their wonderful smile!

Tonight, it's our dance troupe will be performing on the same stage. Come and check them out, you will have a blast. we'll be on at 10 p.m.!
