Practicing Help Improve Attitude

We already know the importance of practicing. Practicing for a certain amount of time each day are really not doing enough. You should first practice in a perfect way in order to realize perfection, i.e quantitative approach to practicing. Once you fully realize this, you can then make a conscious decision to develop better habits.
My hope is that the students enjoy their dance experience, will feel a commitment to their dance team members and to themselves and will experience enthusiasm and excitement as they learn the many techniques of dance. And if parents are supportive, the children will have a more positive attitude towards dancing in general!
Just Keep Dancing!!!

Exciting Time For Kids.

The kids costume are ready. This time the costume came out awesome compare to their previous one!!! I actually consider seriously about their costume, from the fabric and colors, design and the budget. And in many cases, costume is the first thing most people notice. Mainly for the reason I want them to feel comfortable wearing their costume. And they are just very very beginner level. I don’t want them to be neither overly dressed.

Choosing the competition dress might turn to be a challenging task. I’m glad that I have a very good tailor who usually advice me what would be appropriate for my costume idea.

Personal Beyond Belly Dance

I submitted my income tax return by e-file today. This is the 2nd time that I filed my income tax return ahead of the deadline. YIPPEE!.
I remember when I submitted online last year, the damn thing ‘died’ on me. Computer system jam up, server error, and keep on refreshing the page as I filed it on the eve of the deadline. I disciplined myself, I dumped every bills/receipt into my plastic folder as and when I bought time. So I don’t feel headache looking for bills/receipts. So, no more kelam-kabut for me this time. I completed my entire tax submission within 3 hours. I’m glad I did it within a short period of time and the best part is, I overpaid!!

Workshop!!! Workshop!!! Workshop!!!

Well, to sum things up :

Double click to enlarge

26-30 Aug 2009 - Belly Dance Festival Asia 2009. A jump-start for the whole week experience at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, and more superstar dancers are coming to conduct workshops and performing.
Bellly Dance Teachers, encourage your students to attend. However, I have discovered sometimes teachers do not advertise workshops to their students, I dont know why they don't, a crying shame for the workshop teacher.

Belly Dance Competition Music

Been pretty sleepy today and wish should be sleeping now but decided to add a quick post, I know, it's been a while since I've updated. So much stuff going on! I recevived the music for the belly dance competition yesterday, 1st song is Aha Aha Vene Lezim Mezdeka 4 (3 mins) for novice and 2nd song is Zeina (3.25) for intermediate level. I got both album couple years ago. Great music suit for beginner and intermediate level. I’m appreciate the secletion of the music very much. And I had to say thank you who had picked it.
Yay, I done the choreography for novice last night !!! I practiced and shimmied straight whole night. My legs hurt, but not as bad as I expected. Going for more tonight for Zeina. Just waiting for my student to decide whether they want to go or not, I know, the time is too short to practice, nevermind, we’ll see.

Gem Island, Pulau Gemia

Hmm… this is just my personal interests & sharing.

Belly Dance Competition

I am back from holiday since last week, but was stuck at pile of work after a long holiday. Gem Island is a beautiful relaxing Island, I wish to go back again to this island for snorkeling. I am back for blogging, too bad that my streamyx was down since last week. I'm stealing a little time from my office to blog….hehe, the pictures will share with you later.
That is a dance competition on 2 May 2009 organised by YMCA Ballroom Dance Club Penang. One of their committee invited me to take part in belly dancing but I always hate the competition. In dance Competition, the rules aren't always understood by the audience. What I can do is to spread the news to my students. I felt amazed finally my students decided to go out to see another part of belly dance world even though the competition date gets closer. Of course, there are definitely some positive in my belly dance competition experience - teamwork and discipline, growth, learning and challenging. I was able to hone in on their progress. They made me feel good to be their teacher. I loved watching them improve.
I am a bit rushing because Arabesque junior want to join the belly dance competition. Start from searching fabric, look for tailor & design their costume, then numbers rehearsal and bra bra….. huh, just busy and busy. The kids practice once in a week, with load of homework and school activities, I don’t really drive them crazy with choreography or expecting to win, but encourage them do good, to be fun. That, after all, is why we dance!

Going to Kuala Terengganu

Hip Hip Horray! I’m going to Gem Island located at Marang, a district of the East Coast state of Terengganu, Malaysia. It is one of the most beautiful islands and breathtaking eco-tourism attractions. I’m not really know what to see in Terrengganu itself beside being the main route to island. But, I'm pretty excited for snorkeling.
I’m sorry I have to cancel a few classes on Thursday, Sunday & Monday as we had planned this trip last year. Well, well… It’s time for all of you to rest for a while, we have plenty of dances need to do for the coming showcase!
See you soon! Hip Hip Wonderlife, God Bless!

Review Hadia Oreintal Dance Teacher Training

Dinner time together

I now have a deeper understanding the origins of Oriental Dance. Hadia teaching techniques were quite different from many of the things I have learned before. It really wasn’t about dancing at all, but was packed enough cultural and historical background. I'm not going to go into much detail about what Hadia taught, because I think everyone ought to experience it in person. So my write-up of the teacher training portion will be a little shorter.
First, all attendees have to get their homework done before Hadia start the class. The anatomical drawings, graphs and a psychological questionnaire and chart results to determine your style of learning. If you take the teacher training with her, be sure you pay attention as Hadia is fairly patient if you keep doing incorrectly.
The first thing I want to do is apply her training to my daily class routine. It stretched me in a lot of ways, as I'm so used to a very structured environment with lots of drills and choreography but no development of myself as an individual dancer. The interesting part is I learnt the difference between Malfouf, Baladi, Maksoum, Masmoudi Saiidi, Chiftitelli etc in respect of rhythm, background culture and style. We practiced the typical movements of each dance to understand the difference between them.
With all the good things that came out of the training, I couldn’t have expected more, but Hadia gave more. Hadia was generous with her knowledge and shared everything, attendees could ask about anything dance related or otherwise. Class time in Hadia oriental dance training was a very worthwhile experience that I would recommend to anyone. It was the best training I have been to in a long time. Rumors are in the wind that she will return soon. I will be there! Hadia is one of my inspirations in Oriental Dance. I respect her hard work and what she is trying to do for the dance community.

Belly Dancer and Gossip

I recently noticed that belly dancers do gossip a lot. Gossips can be a source of ideas as to what is in fashion and other stuff, it is not talking about someone else's business. If a piece of gossip about somebody is true, it can still be very hurtful. I have seen some friends get hurt from people gossiping about them and others and that is the main reason I tend to stay away from it. I don't like to hurt feelings or that.
If you are ever the victim of any horrible rumor and you hear them laughing and asking if it's true, walk up to those people, look them in the eye, and tell them that nothing happened. Don't try to explain. You'll just make it worse! Trust me! It takes a lot of tears, but in the end you'll feel stronger than ever.
The world is small and belly dance is a really small world. Belly dancers travel everywhere, they are on the net and they email. They know people and they are connected. So before you go running your mouth about something or someone, you might think about who else might hear about it. Because world is really small, You know?

Ariellah Gothic Fusion Belly Dance Workshop

I drove all the way to Kuala Lumpur just to attend Gothic Fusion Belly Dance Workshop right after my full week of dance training. The workshop was organized by Carol Teoh. www.zahra.com.
Ah..ah... it's super challenging workshop and there were session to strengthen arms and strengthen our bodies, shoulder exercise and the belly sets. Ariellah started a short introduction and a demonstration of a few variation steps, most of the attendees were not able to do up to speed. As a new leaner, it was an extremely challenging choreography.
The workshop objective was to learn arms, hands & movement, basic drills and full choreography. Ariellah also strongly emphasized safe posture. It was interesting to see how similar moves are presented and executed in different ways between the different styles. She is extremely friendly, so much so that the attendees often asked her about questions.
Being exhausted from the previous day of Hadia Teacher Training, I don’t know what I was doing in the class as my head was full of authentic world of Oriental dance and introduction. I have limited capacity for memorizing choreography. I don’t know how the others could memorize so many movement and in the correct order.
After the class, Ariellah distributed her notes she had taught in the class. Overall, I still need drillings, practice and master it fully before I dance.
